About Us
CarRentalHelp exists to help travellers resolve financial disputes that arise from car rentals abroad.
Our purpose is simple: to give you a clear, structured, evidence-based approach to challenging a charge — so that your complaint is properly prepared, properly directed, and as strong as it can be.
Why CarRentalHelp was created
Most people who experience a financial problem after a car rental are not familiar with the challenge process. They may send one email to the rental company, receive a generic response, and assume there is nothing more they can do.
In fact, there is usually considerably more that can be done — but the steps are not obvious, and the structure of a modern car rental booking makes it easy to send complaints to the wrong organisation, in the wrong order, without the right evidence.
A typical international rental involves several different parties:
- A broker or comparison website where the booking was made
- A rental company that supplied the vehicle — often in a different country
- A card issuer that processed the payment
- Potentially a separate insurance provider
When a dispute arises, each of these organisations has a different role, different responsibilities, and a different complaint process. Knowing which to contact first — and how to structure what you say — can make a significant difference to the outcome.
CarRentalHelp was developed after detailed analysis of more than 12,000 publicly reported car rental complaints, specifically to identify the escalation approaches that are most effective in practice. The service is built on what the evidence shows works — not on theory.
Our approach
CarRentalHelp is built on three principles:
Clarity
We explain your options in plain language. We do not use legal jargon where plain English will do, and we do not overcomplicate what is essentially a structured complaint process.
Structure
The sequence in which complaints are sent matters. Contacting organisations in the wrong order, or missing a stage entirely, can reduce your options later. We provide a logical escalation pathway based on how these disputes actually work.
Evidence
Most car rental disputes turn on documentation. A well-evidenced complaint — with photographs, rental records, and a clear timeline — is significantly more likely to receive proper consideration than an informal email. We tell you exactly what evidence you need and why.
What CarRentalHelp does — and does not do
We want to be transparent about the nature of this service.
CarRentalHelp prepares a Dispute Resolution Pack tailored to your situation. The pack contains a case summary, escalation strategy, timeline, professional complaint templates, and an evidence checklist. You use those documents to pursue your complaint yourself. You remain in control of all communications.
CarRentalHelp is not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice. We are not a claims management company and we do not pursue claims on your behalf. We do not take a percentage of any refund you receive — our fee is a fixed £25 per case.
We do not promote or recommend any rental company, broker or insurer. Our guidance is completely independent.
Independent and evidence-based
CarRentalHelp does not accept payment from rental companies, brokers or insurers. We have no commercial relationship with any company in the car rental industry. Our analysis is based entirely on publicly available complaint data and published consumer protection frameworks.
Our guidance reflects industry codes of practice — including standards relating to damage evidence, pricing transparency, and vehicle inspection procedures — as well as the escalation routes available to consumers under credit card protection rules and, where applicable, through alternative dispute resolution services.
We are realistic about outcomes. Not every complaint succeeds. But a properly prepared, clearly evidenced complaint directed to the right organisation gives your case the best realistic chance.
